Unfortunately, cancer is a common diagnosis in pets. 1 in four dogs and 1 in 5 cats will develop cancer. At Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care, we provide advanced, compassionate care for pets facing this diagnosis. With early detection, strategic planning, and the right treatment approach, many pets can continue to live full and comfortable lives.
Our board-certified veterinary cancer specialists and their team members offer the highest level of care for pets with cancer. If your pet has recently been diagnosed, we are here to offer hope, clear guidance, and proven treatment options—always keeping your pet’s comfort and quality of life in mind.
A board-certified veterinary oncologist leads our cancer care team. We partner closely with both pet families and their primary care veterinarians to create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique condition and needs.

- Hemangiosarcoma

If Your Pet Has Been Diagnosed with Cancer
During your pet’s initial consultation, our oncology team will conduct a thorough diagnostic evaluation. Then, we will help you understand exactly what the diagnosis means. We will take all the time you need to answer your questions and discuss all available options. Then, we will build a cancer treatment plan tailored to your pet.
Many types of cancer respond well to treatment and we offer a full range of innovative therapies designed to slow or stop disease progression and maintain your pet’s quality of life.
Cancer Treatment Options
Chemotherapy
Our goal with chemotherapy is to control cancer with as few side effects as possible. Treatments are carefully dosed to target cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Most pets tolerate chemotherapy remarkably well and maintain their appetite, energy, and comfort throughout treatment. Unlike for humans, the side effects of chemotherapy in pets are relatively mild.
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy for pets with cancer is a treatment approach that leverages the animal’s own immune system to fight cancer cells. It differs from traditional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation, which directly target cancer cells, by stimulating or enhancing the pet’s immune response to recognize and eliminate cancer cells. This can lead to more targeted treatment and potentially longer-lasting protection against recurrence.
Surgical Oncology
When surgery is part of the plan, our oncology team collaborates closely with our board-certified surgeon. We often begin with a biopsy to determine the tumor type and grade to analyze how aggressive the tumor is. This information helps us assess the behavior of the cancer and design the most effective surgical approach. Then, we will carefully walk you through every step of the surgical procedure and recovery.
