Vet to Vet Behavior Consultation
This consult allows Dr. Petroff to treat patients with behavior problems outside of the state of NY, or those who are too far away to come see us, by consulting directly with the veterinarian.
This is not intended to substitute for a full veterinary behavior consultation, but to provide assistance to those who do not have access to one near them or the option to pursue a full assessment.
What is involved?
The doctor will review:
- The patient’s veterinary medical records from the last 3 years and the veterinary behavior history form
- Up to 5 short videos less than 2 minutes in length
- For feline elimination problems, a photo or video of all litter boxes should be provided. It is not advised to place patients in situations that are extremely stressful or dangerous in order to obtain video. The doctor may be unable to provide specific recommendations without video of the problematic behavior.
What can you expect?
- Once all necessary payment, forms, and videos/photos are received the doctor will provide a written report with recommendations within three business days that the behavior service is open (Tuesday-Friday).
- Assessment of the videos including body language observed
- Differential and definitive diagnoses
- 1-2 medication recommendations with suggested dosing information
- Management and safety recommendations
- Diagnostics to be considered
- Book and online resource recommendations
- Recheck timeframe recommendation
Disclaimer: Animal behavior, including aggression, is unpredictable and will remain unpredictable after its treatment. There is an inherent liability in treating behavior disorders. Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care (GCCVC) and Dr. Petroff cannot promise that the consult or advice will completely eliminate an animal’s potential danger to people, or completely control the animal’s aggression. A telehealth consult is not intended to replace an in-person appointment with a veterinary behavior service.
