Veterinary Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy — Gold Coast Center, Long Island

Surgery is a beginning, not an end. Whether your pet has just had a TPLO, is recovering from spinal surgery, or is managing the day-to-day challenges of arthritis and joint disease, the road back to mobility and comfort runs through rehabilitation.

At Gold Coast, our certified rehabilitation team — Victoria L. Kearns, LVT, CCRP, NCM, OACM and Riley Palmese, LVT, CCAT — designs individualized recovery programs that accelerate healing, rebuild strength, and help pets return to the activity levels their owners remember.

Rehabilitation Process

🏊 Underwater Treadmill

Movement in warm water reduces joint loading by up to 60%, allowing pets to exercise — and rebuild muscle — without pain. Especially valuable post-surgery, for arthritic patients, and for neurological recovery.

🔴 Therapeutic Laser Therapy

Low-level laser energy reduces inflammation, improves local circulation, and accelerates tissue healing. Non-invasive and well-tolerated — most pets visibly relax during treatment.

💪 Targeted Physical Therapy

Customized exercise programs to rebuild specific muscle groups, improve proprioception and coordination, and restore functional movement — designed for each patient’s specific diagnosis and goals.

Conditions We Treat With Rehabilitation

  • Post-surgical recovery — TPLO, fracture repair, spinal surgery, and soft tissue procedures
  • Osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease — pain management and mobility preservation
  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) — neurological recovery and hind-limb strengthening
  • Hip dysplasia — conservative management through targeted strengthening
  • Muscle atrophy — rebuilding mass lost through injury, illness, or prolonged rest
  • Obesity-related mobility limitation — therapeutic exercise with weight-bearing support
  • Sports and working dog conditioning — performance optimization and injury prevention
