Helping Pets Regain Strength, Comfort, and Confidence
At Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care, our physical rehabilitation team helps pets recover, regain strength, and improve their quality of life—whether they’re healing from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or simply slowing down with age.
Much like in humans, movement plays a vital role in healing pets. Our rehabilitation team uses targeted therapies to restore function, reduce pain, and improve comfort. From advanced techniques to gentle, hands-on care, our goal is to support your pet’s physical and emotional well-being every step of the way.
Our team includes a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner and a Certified Companion Animal Rehabilitation professional who lead our physical rehabilitation services.

Gold Coast Rehabilitation Therapies
Our rehabilitation team offers a range of evidence-based therapies designed to reduce pain, restore mobility, and support long-term strength and function—each tailored to your pet’s specific condition and goals.
Cryotherapy
Using cold packs reduce pain and inflammation and decreases surface and deep tissue bleeding.
Fitness & Conditioning
We offer structured programs to build cardiac endurance, strength and agility—ideal for athletic pets or those needing mental and physical stimulation.
Heat Therapy
Home Exercise Programs (HEP)
Our certified practitioners create personalized, at-home exercise plans and provide hands-on instruction to help you confidently support your pet’s recovery in your home between visits.
Using moist heat packs to manage inflammation, stiffness and pain—either before or after exercise, depending on your pet’s needs. Heat therapy is commonly applied before therapeutic exercises or stretching activities to loosen and relax muscles.
Massage Therapy
Hands-on-muscle work promotes circulation, reduces pain and improves comfort.
In-Patient Rehabilitation
Pets recovering while staying overnight in our care benefit from daily, individualized therapy sessions with our Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner designed to support healing and comfort—giving you peace of mind throughout their stay.
Out-Patient Rehabilitation
For pets needing care over a longer term, our adjacent sister hospital, West Hills Animal Hospital, offers convenient drop-off sessions to ensure continuity of treatment.
Mobility Aids & Support
We provide professional fitting and support for wheelchairs (“carts”), orthopedic braces and adaptive devices that promote stability, mobility and comfort.
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (E-Stim/TENS)
E-stim uses low levels of electrical current to activate nerves and muscles and help reduce pain, improve muscle tone and re-educate nerves after injury or surgery. It is often used after orthopedic surgery, in cases of spinal cord damage or for muscle strengthening. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a specific form of E-stim that blocks pain pathways in the nervous system and is often used postoperatively or for chronic pain.
Rehabilitation Program Options
Every pet’s path to recovery is different. That is why we offer flexible rehabilitation options designed to fit your pet’s needs and your daily routine—whether they are healing in our care or at home.
Strength and Balance Tools
Exercises incorporating specialized equipment like exercise balls, rocker boards and wobble boards to enhance coordination and proprioception.
Therapeutic Exercise
Manual therapies targeting specific muscles nerves and other structures to help restore function. These exercises can help increase balance, proprioception, range of motion, muscle mass, muscle strength, promote weight bearing and establish normal gait patterns.
Therapeutic Laser Therapy
Using light energy to encourage wound healing, reduce post-trauma swelling and spark long-lasting pain relief by stimulating the release of your pet’s own painkilling chemicals, such as endorphins.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Using sound waves to increase circulation, break up scar tissue, improve tissue flexibility and reduce pain.
Underwater Treadmill Therapy
Low-impact, high-benefit therapy using water resistance and buoyancy to support joint health and rebuild muscle without added strain. The warm water in our treadmill allows patients to walk comfortably with decreased pressure on their joints. The heated water also helps reduce stiffness. Water resistance aids in increasing muscle mass, muscle strength, circulation, cardiovascular endurance, range of motion and weight bearing on an affected limb(s).
Weight Loss Support
Excess weight can hinder recovery and cause long-term health issues. Our 30-day in-house program includes customized diet and exercise plans to support safe, sustainable weight loss.
Custom Orthotics
We create custom orthotics tailored to your pet’s unique needs, helping improve mobility, comfort, and recovery. Each device is carefully designed and fitted to provide the best possible support for your pet’s lifestyle.
At-Home Excercise Programs
Our team designs personalized at-home exercise programs to complement your pet’s rehabilitation plan. These guided routines help strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and support long-term recovery between visits.
Wheelchairs
Our team offers comprehensive pet wheelchair services to help pets regain mobility and independence. From consultation and precise measurements to ordering, assembly, and balancing, we ensure your pet’s wheelchair is customized for optimal comfort and support.
