Cardiology

Specialized Cardiac Care for Pets

Cardiology focuses on diagnosing, treating and managing heart and circulatory system disease. The Gold Coast cardiology team helps pets not only live longer, but live better—even when navigating complex heart conditions.

Our board-certified cardiology team brings great depth of expertise for all things related to the heart and lungs. Whether diagnosing heart disease or providing long-term cardiac management, we provide care with knowledge and compassion. We work closely with your family veterinarian to tailor care to your pet.

The Gold Coast cardiology team uses state-of-the art tools and equipment to uncover the most accurate information and provide the best treatment and support for your pet.

Our services include:

  • Abdominocentesis (removal of fluid from the abdominal cavity)
  • Analyzing and treating heartworm infections
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Chest radiographs (X-rays)
  • Comprehensive cardiovascular exams
  • Echocardiography (Ultrasound of the heart)
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) (Recording the heart’s electrical activity by showing speed, rhythm, and any irregularities)
  • Pericardiocentesis (removal of fluid around the heart)
  • Thoracocentesis (removal of fluid from the chest cavity)
  • 24-hour Holter and event monitor placement (Non-invasive devices secured to your pet that continually record their heart activity as they go through their normal routine over 24 hours or longer)

Cardiac Screening for Breeding Animals

Certain breeds, including Boxers, Doberman Pinschers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Maine Coon cats, and Ragdoll cats, are genetically predisposed to heart disease. Gold Coast is one of the few centers on Long Island offering advanced cardiac screening for pets prior to breeding.

Gold Coast offers certifications through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
