Dr. Jacqueline Gest-Poulos is a native Long Islander who obtained her undergraduate degrees cum laude in chemistry from New York University. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois in 2011 where she earned a place on the dean’s list every semester and graduated as salutatorian. During her time at the University of Illinois she received multiple academic honors including the Merck Veterinary Manual Award, the Harold Wetterberg Foundation Scholarship, and the First Place Academic Excellence award. In her final year she was awarded the prestigious 2011 ACVIM Certificate of Clinical Excellence which recognizes senior students who demonstrate outstanding clinical expertise in internal medicine. After graduation, Dr. Gest returned to New York to complete a one year general medicine and surgery internship at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. Upon finishing her internship she went on to complete a three year internal medicine residency at The Animal Medical Center. There she received the Connie Liefer Resident Research Award for her residency research in anemia in feline chronic kidney disease. Dr. Gest has presented research at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and has performed continuing education lectures for general practitioners across the country.
Dr. Gest has now returned home to Long Island and is excited to become a member of the Gold Coast team. She lives with her husband, two children, a snuggly pitbull named Princess Buttercup and a sweet cat named Neo. In her free time Dr. Gest enjoys running marathons, gardening and spending time with her family.
